NAD Supplements: What the New Human Evidence Shows

NAD is an essential molecule involved in how cells release energy and carry out repair-related processes. That makes it an appealing target for supplement marketing, particularly for people hoping to protect their health, independence and vitality as they get older.

But an important role in the body does not automatically mean that a product sold in a capsule—or through an IV infusion—will improve health. A recent human study has also challenged a commonly repeated assumption behind many NAD-related claims: that NAD levels in the blood inevitably fall with age.

The question behind the marketing

NAD supplements are not all the same. Products may contain NAD itself, or compounds such as NMN and NR, which the body can use as building blocks to make NAD. IV infusions are another, more invasive option often promoted in longevity settings.

This distinction matters because evidence for one compound or delivery method cannot simply be transferred to another. Before deciding whether a product “works,” it is worth asking exactly what is being offered—and what outcome it is supposed to improve.

The video examines the difference between a plausible biological mechanism and a demonstrated health benefit. Raising an NAD-related blood marker may be scientifically interesting, but it is not automatically evidence of better strength, memory, day-to-day energy, disease prevention or longer life.

What the newer human evidence changes

The 2026 research discussed in the video measured NAD in whole blood across several groups and did not find a simple, universal decline with age. This does not settle every question about NAD in the body. Blood measurements are not the same as measurements in muscle, brain or liver, where NAD is harder to study.

Still, the finding matters because it challenges an overly neat story: that ageing automatically means low NAD, low NAD drives ageing, and boosting NAD therefore slows it. When the starting assumption becomes less certain, the need for meaningful human outcomes becomes even more important.

Small, short human studies have reported signals in particular groups, including changes related to insulin sensitivity or exercise performance. The video puts those findings in context, including why results in selected participants do not automatically establish benefits for every healthy adult over 60.

Why this matters for healthy ageing

Fatigue, weakness, forgetfulness, dizziness and breathlessness can be tempting reasons to try a longevity supplement. Yet these symptoms can also have identifiable medical causes. Focusing on a supplement theory too early may divert money and attention from investigating what is actually going on.
